News and Announcements
We are excited to announce that we are currently planning to resume lacrosse activities in the next few weeks! We will be starting with the remaining winter skills sessions, beginning with the oldest group and working down to our smallest Celtics. Sessions will be held outdoors and respect all social distancing requirements to ensure the health and safety of all. We will email families directly to inform them of the dates/times and process (there will also be a zoom call set up for families to receive important information and have their questions answered). Thank you for your patience and stay tuned!!
Unfortunately, the OLA has now cancelled the 2020 lacrosse season. Although this was not unexpected, we are certainly broken-hearted to lose the opportunity to gather as a lacrosse community this summer to play and watch the game we love. As a non-profit organization, we do not have the financial resources to fully absorb our annual fixed costs and unrecoverable fees levied by the OLA on individual registrations (approximately $25/per player). In order to continue providing sustainable minor lacrosse programming we would kindly ask for those that can, to leave your fees with us until the 2021 season. Anyone that leaves their fees with us will receive the amount as a credit to their 2021 registration(s) and will have their 2021 registration fee frozen at 2020 prices. Should you require your registration refunded now, we are offering full refunds (including the approximately $25/per player administrative fee that the OLA and other service providers have declared non-refundable) to all registrants that have paid in full. We certainly appreciate everyone’s patience and support. Please email our registrar, Laurie Williams, at firstname.lastname@example.org to request a refund. If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you are okay with having your fees rolled over as a credit for the 2021 season. We do plan on running some training camps in order to make up the remaining winter skills sessions that were cancelled when the COVID-19 closures began and will explore other options for some practices/scrimmages when we get the green light to play lacrosse again (hopefully in late summer/early fall). In the meantime, stay safe, stay healthy, and keep your sticks in your hands! To access the OLA release, please go to:
Thank you for your patience as we all try to navigate our current reality. The CMLA has been following the directives put forth by the OLA. At present, they have not cancelled the 2020 lacrosse season and instead are hoping to shift back and abbreviate the season. Should the OLA cancel the remaining season (house league and rep), we will be offering a refund of registration fees. However, as there are fees that have to be paid to the OLA based on registrations, an administration fee is currently required. We are hoping that the OLA will cover some of these costs, however, and we will be able to reduce or eliminate any admin fees. As such, we appreciate your patience while we wait for an official decision by the OLA, as this will allow us to return the maximum fees directly back to you. Unfortunately, the shutdown occurred midway through our Winter Skills sessions, with out Peanut, Paperweight and Tyke players having two out of six sessions remaining and Novice, Peewee, Bantam, Midget, and Junior C players having three out of six sessions remaining. We plan to offer a make-up lacrosse workshop with a “guest” coach when we can again congregate to cover remaining sessions (two hours for younger and three hours for older). We love our lacrosse family and can’t wait until we can safely return to the floor, benches, and stands. We will communicate any updates from the OLA as soon as they are received.
To align with the global strategies being taken to slow the spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Ontario Lacrosse Association has announced the postponement of in-person lacrosse activities until May 15, 2020. As such, all further winter skills sessions are postponed. Once the immediate crisis has passed (and we know definitively that public facilities will reopen), we will advertise dates/times to make up the sessions. We are also looking at options for our regular season, including extending house league over the summer months and condensing the rep season. We are grateful for your understanding and your desire to begin the 2020 season with us as soon as it is safe to do so. Stay safe Celtics!
