News and Announcements
The CMLA is excited to announce that registration is open for the 2021 season! As everyone is well aware, we have had to “pivot” quite a few times this spring as we have dealt with disruptions in facility availability and restrictions due to COVID-19 related lockdowns. We stay committed, however, to offering a safe, fun, and high quality lacrosse program to our families.
Following the guidelines set out by the Ontario Lacrosse Association RETURN TO ACTIVITY document (go to https://ontariolacrosse.com/administration/covid-19 for more information), as well as adhering to provincial and local public health regulations, we will be running a 10-week lacrosse program. We plan to move from initial practices focussing on skill development and team-building to inter-club scrimmages to interlocking play with other associations (such as Akwesasne Storm) as restrictions ease.
Levels and registration fees:
U7 (Paperweight) Birth years 2015-2016 $125 late $135
U9 (Tyke) Birth years 2013-2014 $190 late $200
U11 (Novice) Birth years 2011-2012 $190 late $200
U13 (Peewee) Birth years 2009-2010 $190 late $200
U15 (Bantam) Birth years 2007-2008 $190 late $200
U17 (Midget) Birth years 2005-2006 $190 late $200
Please note: if you left your 2020 registration fees with us, we will honour the 2020 rate (you are all paid up!). Just select e-transfer when you are asked for payment and we will make adjustments at our end.
U7 (Paperweight) will have a minimum of 1 practice/scrimmage a week, with the possibility of adding some outdoor practice/skill building sessions. For U9 and above, there will be 2 practices/scrimmages/games a week (including some outdoor practice sessions).
Please go to https://www.sportzsoft.com/regApp/Login?OrgId=4054 to register. We encourage families to register as soon as possible to help us plan. As such, those registering after May 2nd will be charged the late fee (additional $10). Given the evolving COVID situation, we are unable to provide a specific start date for the program. We hope to get going as early in May as is possible but will contact those registered as soon as we know for certain. Should another lockdown or disruption in programming occur due to COVID, we will “pause” our programming and resume as soon as we are permitted to do so. As such, we plan to fulfil our commitment to a 10-week program. If the world goes sideways and we are unable to proceed with a season at all, we will offer full refunds (of any registration fees held with us). Otherwise, requests to withdraw and receive a registration refund will be subject to a $30 administration fee (to cover costs incurred by the CMLA to register the player with the OLA). All registration refund requests need to be made prior to the season beginning. Once the season starts, refunds will only be issued in special circumstances and may incur additional costs to cover sessions already attended.
This is only the start! Should the evolving situation allow us to offer more options for play following the 10-week program, we will certainly offer additional programming.
March 7, 2021- CMLA season update. Thank you for your patience. As we previously posted, using feedback from the Return to Play survey, we developed a plan for an initial 10 week season (6 sessions of winter skills/level sorting over 4 weeks and a 6 week interlocking league with Akwesasne). We hoped to follow this up with a more competitive program (for those interested and if/when restrictions allowed). Registration was to open this week. As ice is staying in the Benson Centre longer this year, we booked our floor time at the Civic Complex. Unfortunately, we were notified on Friday that the Civic Complex arena floor is being considered for the vaccine clinic, which leaves us without a facility to play until May when ice is removed from a pad in the Benson Centre. This is certainly disappointing as we know that the kids are chomping to get back on the floor. We are trying to work with the City to resolve this situation. Please rest assured that the CMLA executive recognizes the negative impact that COVID-related restrictions have had on our youth and are committed to getting kids physically active and having fun in a safe environment. We will keep you posted with all relevant developments
The CMLA executive are currently working towards a return to lacrosse this spring and summer. Unfortunately, the fluctuating restrictions required due to COVID-19 are contributing to some uncertainties but, with guidance from the OLA, we are attempting to plan for all possible conditions. We are currently gathering input from interested families via our Return to Play Survey. Please take a few minutes to provide us with your opinions by going here (https://forms.gle/D5c6AMohdqAzfZjT8). We thank you for your patience and we will keep you updated with any further information regarding programming. Get your sticks in your hands Celtics and we will see you soon!
